Arithmetic: Integers

SATprepararion.net
While most people think the SAT is a test of advanced math, about one-fifth
  of the questions are arithmetic. Most students need to review this arithmetic.
SAT TIP:  When asked about integers,
                 think of positive values,
                 negative values, and zero!.

Math Review
An integer is any whole number point on the number line -- positive, negative, and zero!

Try this example:
If P is the set of positive integers, O is the set of odd intergers, and N is the
set of integers less than 5, which of the following could be in all three sets?
     (A) 8   (B) 6   (C) 3  (D) 0   (E) -3

STRATEGY:  Think of the possible values and try them.  ("Guess and check")

          P  =  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

          O  =  -3, -1, 1, 3, 5, etc.

          N  =  4, 3, 2, 1, 0, -1, -2, -3,etc.

Solve:

     The only integer in all three sets is 3.

Practice with these examples:
        An
easy problem for scores from 200 to 400
        A
moderate problem for scores from 400 to 600
        A
difficult problem for scores from 600 to 800
